Demo: Clipping Mask
The purpose of this assignment was to learn how to use clipping masks in preparation for an upcoming assignment. In order to create this, I followed Ms.'s instructions from start to finish, and then added my own touch by adjusting the brightness and opacity of the mountain range. I then turned it into an advertisement for hiking boots by picking a brand name, finding a hiking boot photo to import, and coming up with a slogan.
Themed Portrait
The purpose of this assignment was to create a themed portrait of someone that we know, and to use our ability to create clipping masks to display the subject's passion. For this assignment, I started by uploading an portrait of my subject. I then chose two stock photos from the internet that I thought would best convey her passion, in this case being music. I chose to replace her t-shirt with a close up image of a piano because she is a very skilled pianist. Additionally, I chose to replace the lenses of her glasses with sheet music, because her glasses are quite literally the lens(es) through which she views the world, and so it was only fitting that music be included in that. I am really happy with the result. Instead of taking a more dramatic approach to the project as was done in many of the in-class examples, I chose to take a more playful and joyous route with this project, and I think that it does a good job showing that.
Multiplicity Assignment
For my multiplicity assignment, I decided to create a composite image of a 3-on-3 basketball game in the park. In order to make this, I first went to the park and set up a tripod. I then posed and took photos in three different offensive positions on the court in my white jersey, followed by three defensive positions in my blue one, to make it look like there are two teams playing against each other. I then opened all of the photos into Photoshop, and took the background out from around the photos of myself using a combination of the lasso tool and various selection tools. I then placed the cut out images onto a blank picture of the court and resized/adjusted them to create the image you see above. Afterwards, I added a sky overlay to make the entire image more interesting to look at. I am very happy with the way that this turned out. The conditions in which I took the photos makes them look like part of the image, and I am proud of the idea in general because I spent a lot of time planning in order for it to work out as it did.
